After doing a little research and digging deeper, my perspective of the problem changed. I began to incorporate the course materials and study groups all in one application. I did not see this feature in any application and hence, this became my prime motive. 

When I had to choose between cool and warm colors for this application, my go-to choice was warm colors. I wanted the users to feel the energy and start their day with a positive mindset and plan their day well and work towards it. Orange and Yellow - the colors of the Sun seemed perfect. With this, all the design choices made below were coming together.
